Keep settings in a schema

Keep a JSON document, such as shipping rates, that several flows read: make it in Test, change it in its editor, and copy it to Prod.

Steps

Name the schema

Open Schemas and click Create schema. Type its Name, such as Shipping rates, paste the JSON into Document and click Create schema: Schema created in Test. It opens.

New schema, made in the Test environment, with the Name field, the rule for names and the Document field.

Change its fields

On Fields, change a value or click Add field (JSON shows the same document as text). Click Save.

The Shipping rates schema on its Fields tab: nl, be and freeFrom, each a Number, with Copy to Prod and Save at the top.

Read it in a flow

In a node's field: {{ schema("Shipping rates").nl }}. Or a Schemas node: Get reads the document or one field. Used by lists the flows that read it.

How it works

A run reads the document as it was when the run started; a change you save does not reach a run already going. Set and Set path change it only for the rest of that run, never the saved document.

Copy it to Prod

When its flows go to Prod, click Copy to Prod…, check what changes and click Copy to Prod. Only a workspace admin can. Each environment then keeps its own document under the same name.

If it did not work

  • The document must be valid JSON. Check the quotes around each name and the commas between fields, or use the Fields tab.
  • A schema with that name already has a document here — open it instead. Open it from the list.
  • The document changed elsewhere. Someone saved it after you opened it: reload and make your change again.
  • Writing Prod schema data needs a workspace admin. Make the change in Test, and ask a workspace admin to copy it to Prod.
