Add a secret

Keep a token or a password for your flows as a secret: write-only, with an optional different value for Prod, used in any field as secret.NAME.

Steps

Open New secret

Open Secrets and click New secret.

New secret with the Key and Value fields, Different value in Prod, and Create secret.

Fill in the key and value

Type the Key your flows use, such as SHOP_TOKEN, and paste the Value, used on Test and Prod. To give Prod its own, tick Different value in Prod and fill in Test value and Prod value.

New secret for SHOP_TOKEN with Different value in Prod ticked: a Test value field above a Prod value field.

Create it

Click Create secret, then Continue on Add the Prod secret? (Prod flows read it too). The list shows where it has a value; nobody, you included, can read the value back.

Use it in a flow

In a node's field, type {{ secret.SHOP_TOKEN }} with your key. The copy button beside its reference in the list, or Copy reference in its ⋯ menu, copies it.

How it works

Flowmage encrypts the value on save and fills it in only while the node runs. Wherever a run would show it, even when a service sends it back, it is hidden. Replace value… in the secret's menu changes it.

If it did not work

  • This secret can't be saved — check the name and values. A value is shorter than 8 characters.
  • A run fails with SECRET_MISSING. The secret has no value in the run's environment. The Missing in Prod tab lists secrets without a Prod value.
  • Secret … does not exist in this workspace. Check the key's spelling, capitals included.
  • … can only be used on its own or compared with == / !=. A secret cannot go inside a function: put {{ secret.NAME }} on its own, other text outside it.
